81-year-old man shooting
A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death of a man at Engadine New South Wales today.
This morning police were called to a home in Ridge Road at Engadine following reports of a domestic situation.
Police believe a firearm was discharged at the front door of the home.
A 56-year-old man suffered a minor gunshot wound to his forehead and was treated at the scene by Ambulance paramedics.
Police from Sutherland Police Area Command attended and located an 81-year-old man attempting to leave the area in a vehicle.
The man pointed a firearm at police officers when challenged by them. He then discharged the firearm, suffering a self-inflicted gun-shot wound, to his neck.
The man was unable to be revived and subsequently died at the scene.
A critical incident investigation team from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
