Generators for VIC care facilities

The Victorian Government has switched-on a further 62 power generators to residential care facilities located in areas of high bushfire risk across the state.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio today announced the completion of Stage 5 of the Local Infrastructure Assistance Fund in Cowes, visiting the locally installed generator at Grossard Court which can now secure the electricity supply for its 80 residents.

The LIAF is a $40 million program to assure continuous back-up power to residential care facilities, cutting the risk of disruption to power supplies during extreme bushfire weather conditions.

By December 2016, approximately 14,000 vulnerable Victorians in residential care facilities across 55 Local Government Areas will benefit from greater power reliability.

Once installed, the generators kick in within seconds of a power fault, ensuring the power is always on.

This work is part of the Government’s $750 million Powerline Bushfire Safety Program, a recommendation from the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission.
